presumably, the mouse is designed that once it is fully charged, you need to take it off from the docking station. Battery life and durability Keyboard battery: the keyboard uses 4 AA batteries. this is a pricey combo set with a useful life of less than 5 yrs. if you leave the mouse idle at the docking station for over a week, it actually drains the battery. on average, a fully charged high keyboard would last about 2 weeks (assuming 6-10 hours daily use). however, if you leave a fully charged mouse idle for a week, it will drains off and need to be recharged. our IT determined problem is not with battery but want to check it out more which will cost about $100.
the wireless keyboard degraded and failed to make connection after 4 yrs. i decided it is cheaper to buy a new set (after all it is not my $$$ -:). when the mouse was new, a fully charged mouse may last up to 2 weeks. below are a few "buyer beware" items.1. i used high grade rechargeable batteries. after about 2 yrs of use, the internal battery degrades and only last for about 1 week (assuming 6-8 hrs daily use).
2. in conclusion. I have been using this combo set for work (6-10 hrs daily) a little over 4 years. Mouse battery: the mouse comes with internal battery and recharging docking station. Keyboard.
THANKS HONEY. As I mentioned I gave it three months, but I wish to God I had just gone with a new MX3000 keyboard.WHICH I JUST PURCHASED.Anyway, if you do not want to waste your money, and want to avoid frustrations that could cause extreme headaches, or broken knuckles from punching the wall.DON'T BUY THIS PIECE OF CRAP. So, I purchased this off amazon.com about three months ago, because my beautiful and amazing Logitech MX3000 keyboard mouse set got a cup of orange juice spilled on it. Anyway, I thought, "well, the MX5000 is higher in number so it must be better." WWWWWWWWWWRRRRRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG.MX5000 IS THE BIGGEST PIECE OF DUNG I HAVE EVER BOUGHT IN MY LIFE.
The only reason I even came here was to try to get a new one because logitech will no longer allow you to order just the charger (which my three daughters broke). I did stop using the software and just go by windows compatibility, which removes some features but removes a lot of the headaches as well (when i first installed it i used their software and would have agreed with a lot of the reviews.
Your choice even though i doubt to many will pay for this at its current cost which really is a shame. If you don't need to go wireless why on earth would you.
If you need a wireless setup like I do because of distance to your PC then this is better then anything else on the market including logitech's newer set ups. So you can trust the guy that is still using it and was going to buy it again just for the charger (till he saw the price)or you can listen to the reviewers that didn't want to give it a chance and are too computer illiterate enough to work out a solution to their self inflicted problems.
I have now had my Mx 5000 for well over 3 yrs not only have i had little to no problems with it but it still works perfectly. I'm an avid gamer including MMO's and this mouse has always been fast and responsive.
Corded will always be more reliable then any wireless solution and any of the features this provides can and are done by keyboards that are just as good and cheaper.
Nothing is working - neither the touch functions nor the lighting - so no media controls. They can be used as standard keys or programmed with custom settings. This is a media keyboard and has buttons and an illuminated touchpad to control media functions. Other than that the layout is fairly standard except there is no scroll lock key but who uses it anyway, and the keyboard has a reasonable feel to it during use. Battery life seems pretty reasonable even with heavy use and the builtin battery meter shows when it is needing a recharge which is as simple as sitting it in the charging stand.
I notice the newer MX5500 has gone back to mechanical controls so it must have been a problem for others too. It is a very nice product in almost every way. The function keys have dual function. The batteries are not designed to be user replaceable which may be an issue one day for some.
It is comfortable to hold but is designed for right handed use so lefties may not like it all as the thumb buttons will be unusable. Unfortunately the temperature is never correct and no custom functions like system temperatures or drive capacities can be displayed so it is really just a wasted resource - a gimmick. Initially the layout annoyed me a little as they moved from the old navigation key layout to the narrower one now favoured by many keyboard makers. If ou don't have a good supply of alkaline AA batteries (4 at a time) don't get this keyboard.
Usually I have been able to fix it easily by taking the keyboard apart and cleaning it and reconnecting the flexicable. I reprogrammed two of the thumb buttons to be the SHIFT and CTRL keys which makes selecting groups of files for copy/move/delete very easy without using the keyboard. If I stay cordless it will be this combo or maybe the MX5500. However I have had the touchpad completely fail a number of times meaning there are no media controls. Unlike some users, I have had no issues getting the mouse to connect with the receiver though now and then the cursor might drift a little and I put this down to some kind of radio interference. The MX5000 KeyboardThe keyboard seems to have few more issues than the mouse. It can extended a bit by turning it off if not using it but the batteries still die too quickly. Builtin in rechargeables and some kind of charging function - perhaps a cable from the mouse charging stand - would have been a great idea.
It was a fairly expensive combo at the time in Australian dollar prices. The MX1000 Laser MouseLet's start with the mouse. Not this last time. I find it fairly responsive but am not much of a game player so can't advise from that point of view. Battery life on this keyboard is a bit short. I've also had the keyboard lose its bluetooth connection but it is usually easy to reconnect.Overall not a bad product but the keyboard has much room for improvement.
There are odd occasions where one might need a corded keyboard and mouse to fix problems such as a stubborn disconnection. I've not tried rechargeables but I intend to. It has a smooth scroll wheel and many buttons which are all programmable.
If needed even a tiny recharge will give a few minutes of use. When the touchpad works it is quite OK to use though I find it very easy to accidentally touch the mute key. This could be so easily done via the Setpoint software if they had added that feature.
I am looking to build a new PC and don't know whether to stay cordless or go with a Logitech G15 keyboard and G9X mouse or a corded Lazer product. OK I've used this product for a couple of years now and I do use it a lot. Personally I will just open it up and replace them if that day ever comes.
The keyboard also has an LCD display which shows the time, the temperature (in Celsius or Fahrenheit) and various status messages including instant messages, waiting emails and the current media playing.
What good is a wireless product if you have to keep the wired ones on stand by to correct frequent failures. I'm not into gaming and don't have any usage problems with either the keyboard or the mouse, but keeping them connected is a huge problem.
I would not purchase this product again, and do not recommend it. THEN, getting the keyboard to connect takes forever, and it goes through 4 or 5 connection cycles before it will connect.
If it isn't the mouse, it's the keyboard, a really bad day is when they both go, and I then have to drag out the other mouse in order to navigate on the computer to get to the connection utility. The other issue I have with the keyboard is if I want to cut it off to help save the batteries, I have to go through the connection lunacy, and spend half the day trying to get it to connect.
I am so sick of this product, and having to plug in my USB mouse to use the connection utility to get a connection for the mouse and keyboard. I have had this set for about two years and have received all of the software updates, but the bluetooth connection still continues to drop.
Other times, I have to reboot the computer because the keyboard will not connect at all.
